Marci's description of the mapping studies of Western Creek reminded me a little of premaculture planning methods used by Max Lindegger at eco-villages including Crystal Waters, Kookaburra Park (Gin Gin) and elsewhere. He used a series of mapping overlays of various parameters (eg soil type, ground slope, orientation and so on) to analyse prospective sites for self-sufficient community developments. Marci's work takes this framework to an existing urban context. As a method for analysis for potential sustainable community development, it would be a very useful alternate planning model to contrast with town planners seemingly "obvious" town planning methods for the formulation of conventional planning maps.
This blog has been set up to encourage dialogue and comments about all elements of sustainability in communities. Please feel free to post comments. We welcome any inspiring links or recommended presenters for future workshops. Please email mail@emmascragg.com
